Today, we are interviewing Diego Herrera, owner of Private Workouts.
Please tell us something about yourself.
I grew up in Long Beach, originally from Mexico. At the age of 5, I started to play soccer here in Long Beach. Soccer was my passion until I suffered from several injuries & surgeries.
How did you get into what you do right now? Please tell us more about your journey?
At the age of 18, after my college soccer career ended at LBCC, I didn’t know what was going to keep me active. I ran into a free gym at the Long Beach community park. My passion for fitness began there. After not being able to find a job, I then moved to Indiana at the fresh age of 20. My passion for fitness grew more there as I am as stuck in the snow for multiple months, and to avoid a sad mind and mentality, I would work out every day to have a healthy mind. After a little over a year, I missed the sun, went back to California to give it a second try. I struggled at first, starting bussing tables at a restaurant close to home. Fitness was still part of my life, and I always try to look my best and stay active. I feel like that’s what attracted some people to know more about me even though I’d be bussing tables. Eventually, someone came in and offered me a private bartending job in exclusive parties in LA. That’s where my life really began, and I started to meet lots of very interesting people that opened my mind and other doors of opportunities.
Who are your role models?
My parents, for never giving up. My close friends, Revolino Gharibian, introduced me to a whole different way of personally carrying yourself amongst high-end crowds. My mentor Ardel Avelino, for always pushing me to do my best. Also, a strong man by the name of Mike Rashid, I used to watch his YouTube videos when I was stuck in the snow in Indiana, I believe he is the true meaning of a fitness guru and independent entrepreneur.
What inspires you?
Helping others to be their best inspires me the most. That is what inspires me the most and why I decided to help people through online and personal training. Also, why I was able to obtain my real estate license. Currently trying to get Ordained to marry people. I enjoy being a positive presence or a step into people’s happiness.
Please tell us about what you do.
I am currently the only owner of Private Workouts. A small business that was initially intended for private personal trainers going to client’s most convenient place to workout throughout the greater Los Angeles area. Eventually, my business partners took on different passions and left me to take over the direction of private workouts. We currently offer a wellness program for those who suffer from discomfort because of previous/old injuries and want to strengthen areas in order to be comfortable again to have normal workouts. We always offer in-person training, and advanced online training programs for at home, minimal weights, or gym facilities. Some of the most popular programs have been the “Big Booty Program” for those that want to build bigger and more defined glutes. The weight loss program that guides clients step by step beginning with proper diet. And recently, the “full core guide” that explains how to cut down on unwanted body fat and develop a core. The website is always being updated myprivateworkouts.com
What’s your most memorable experience?
Being able to do runway two of the most important structures in downtown Los Angeles. Seeing all the flashes and the crowds just looking at me are memories that I’ll never forget.
Which social media channels work best for promoting your work?
Instagram, at diego.el.jefe, and at privateworkouts, both pages show me as a person and what I am passionate about. The private workouts page is a work in progress but will have more personal training sessions with my actual clients, how-to videos, and motivational speeches by me.
What’s your greatest fear?
My greatest is leaving this earth without bigger accomplishments. I believe that a vision is only an illusion until it is conquered. Taking off with illusions will only be a loss in my eyes.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. Everything that has happened to me thus far has a higher purpose that will either be exposed to me in the future or that I will eventually find out. I live my life with no regrets, just modifications as I live and learn.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Meet people and network. Be genuine to everyone, treat everyone equally regardless of who they are, or what their preference is. When you are genuine to people, you become unique, and they appreciate that. When people appreciate you as a whole, they recommend you or open doors to you without you asking.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
My values! Family, god, belief.
Any message for our readers.
Yes, my favorite message is that it doesn’t matter where you come from. That’s certainly not the worse thing about you. The worst thing about you is having an opportunity to get out of where you come from and not taking advantage of it. Second is that, if people don’t hand you opportunities, make sure that you create them.
How can people connect with you?
You can connect via Instagram at Diego Herrera and Private Workouts or through website. You can also drop an email at diegoherrera@kw.com for real estate queries or privateworkouts@gmail.com for training.
